FAQsWho is allowed to use the park and when is it open?
Nashua Dog Park members and their registered dogs are allowed access to the park. The park is open year-round from sunrise to sunset. On occasion, we may need to close the park for maintenance. When this need arises, members are notified in advance. Are only Nashua residents allowed to join? Membership is not restricted to only Nashua residents -- anyone may join the park. How do you become a member of Nashua Dog Park? Go to the Join page and click the "Register Online" link. Is there a membership fee? Yes. Annual memberships may be purchased at any time. Prices are listed on the "Join" page. Operating, maintenance and development costs are funded by the membership fees and fundraising events. How will registered members and their dogs enter the park? Members are issued an access card to enter the double gated entry area where dogs will be unleashed. Once unleashed, dogs may enter either through the gentle/senior dog area or the main dog area, depending on their handler's preference. What will stop a member from letting in non-members? A violation will result in loss of membership and all privileges related to Nashua Dog Park membership. Is this a carry-in carry-out dog park? Yes and no. Waste bag dispensers are located throughout the park. Members must pick-up after their dog(s) and dispose of dog waste bags in the dumpster, located near the exit gate. A private waste removal company empties the dumpster weekly. I've heard something about DNA testing... what is that? DNA testing is a plan to assist in solving the #1 nationwide problem at dog parks - irresponsible owners who do not pick up after their dog. Nashua Dog Park has elected to eliminate this problem by participating in the DNA World Pet Registry PooPrints program. A mouth swab is performed on each new member dog and the results are entered into a DNA database. Should orphan poops become a problem, the unclaimed poops will be sent to the lab for testing. The test results are matched to the DNA database. Members in violation will be fined $90* for each offense - this is the actual cost of processing. On the fourth offense, an individual's membership is subject to review. *The PooPrints fine is subject to change without notice. Is there parking near the dog park? There's a large parking lot between the lighted softball field and the dog park fence. Dog park members are required to follow the city ordinance by leashing their dogs to and from the dog park entrance. How many full time/part time employees work for Nashua Dog Park? None. We're a volunteer organization. What volunteer help is needed? Occasionally for park maintenance. SITE MAP... view map The dog park is located at 1 Groton Road, Route 111A, Nashua, NH 03062-1034. This is a 2.73 acre parcel in Southwest Park behind the Yudicky Farm softball fields. If you visit, turn into the only vehicle entry and drive a few hundred feet to the large parking area located just beyond the fenced softball field. Drive to the rear of the parking lot close to the berms. Please see the landscape architect's rendering of our park below. Our acreage begins approximately 100 feet beyond the parking lot berms. As you will see, our entire site is fenced with 8' black powder coated extra heavy gauge fencing. The property has both wide open space as well as a forested area beyond the stone wall. Next to the entry gate you will see the 10' x 95' enclosed "gentle" dog area for the exclusive use of small and/or senior dogs. At the end of the open space, there is a granite wall where the tree line begins. The wooded area of the site, which already has a few trails, extends beyond the stone wall and up the hill. Nine disposal bag stations are located throughout the park. A single refuse barrel is located in a separate fenced-in area near the entry gate. All dog waste is deposited into this container and it is emptied weekly. A pavilion is planned as a later addition, offering space for member orientation, educational classes, and storage.
